Summer Program Curricula:
Starting – how to use body positioning, blade positioning, and stride direction to accelerate.
Straights – how to use body position, blade position, and stride direction to effectively push off the skate to build and maintain straight away speed.
Corners – how to use body position, blade position, and stride direction to effective push off the inside and outside skate to build and maintain speed through cross-overs.
Technical Evaluation - an introductory and mid-point video assessment of technical competency and development.
Summer Speed Skating:
With no ice in the RBC Centre though June and July to host 2020 North American Aboriginal Games events the 2020 Summer Speed Skating program will look a little different. Rather than 10 weekly sessions from June to August there will be 6 session on Tuesdays and Thursdays in August, with more ice per session to compensate.
Each of the 6 sessions includes 25 minutes of off-ice preparation before 80 minutes of on-ice development.
A program for developing and advanced speed skaters. Skaters should have a minimum of 2 years of speed skating experience and be at least 11 years old.
Tuesdays + Thursdays August 11-27
Off-ice 5:50pm-6:15pm + On-ice 6:30pm-7:50pm
